Motorcycle vacuum leak fix
So I know this isn't a motorcycle forum, but the guys at the yamaha forum I joined don't do anything. Like at all. The forum goes for like a week with no activity. So I'm moving the question here. The boot that goes between the 4th carburetor and the intake on the cylinder head is pretty badly cracked. Its not fallen apart yet, but that cylinder isn't firing because of a pretty hefty vacuum leak. Could I fix the boot with the anaerobic RTV gasket maker? The black stuff right? Do you think it would hold up and not get sucked into the engine? Any other suggestions? I can't seem to find any used ones on eBay and the bike store says they're discontinued.

go to your local NAPA parts house and ask for the Loctite rubber bumper repair kit---its a two part filler like epoxy but it sets up and is flexible---strong as hell too....I've done many bumper repairs and hole fills with it with great success---also used it to fix a cold air intake on a chevy truck---worked good but a bit pricy---like 27 bucks..................Dan

Ok, well I'll use the bumper repair stuff till I can get a new boot. And yes you're right, its basically just a coupler, but I could only get them used for like $50 for 2. I ride a 1981 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim. If you can get a set of good ones for not too much let me know. I'd rather replace the boots than patch them. The patch will get me going for now though.
