Thumbs up How to....convert your SC to a winter car...

Well after personally putting over 100,000 miles on my 94 SC since I bought it back in 97, It's going to get somewhat of a break, though the nicest weather is what it will be missing the most of. The Good old SC will be a milage buffer/dog limo/snowmobile now for the most part if I have my way, and assuming I don't find a deal on a trade for a good old truck for it.

It all started 6 years ago when I was searching for a 4x4 pickup. The salesman says, "got your heart set on 4wd?". "yes unless you have a thunderbird supercoupe" ....they did....no truck.

Well six years later the SC is much more worn but paid off. Time to buy a truck. I never realized how slow full sized pickups really are. Well anyway, after a month of looking for the perfect truck for me I ran across a blue 99 z28 camaro. 350ci 6speed, flowmaster kit........now that is what I needed! Not that one though, not clean enough.

A couple weeks later and a couple near miss test drives I was still looking. Then this morning I see an ad from 80 miles away a hair over what I'm looking to spend. Very vague ad, 2002 black <15000 miles 6 speed black. So I call to see because I want black, but with ttops and a cd player. So I call and the guy comes back, "yup ttops and cd player". Great! I'm drivin' up there.

Don't I pull in, and right on the corner with a big 2002 sticker is this perfect black SS. No way I'm thinking, they advertised this beautiful rare car without mentioning SS or ttops or cd player even and no pictures!

If you don't know about the f-bodies(camaro's and firebirds), the SS package is 325hp 350ci v8, stainless exhaust, functional hood scoop, 275/45ZR17's, suspension upgrades, SS badges, and as a bonus this one is the 35th anniversary edition with t-tops and 6-speed.

Well I put a deposit on it, and now I just have to talk to my bank. I am preapproved, but had the loan already upsize approved, now I need to add 2 or 3 grand. 1 grand optional for a 60/60 premium warranty. What the hell I'm gonna try to break it at least a little lol. So anyway, it's all up to my bank now!!!!!!!!!!!!
COME ONNNNNN BANK!!! lol.

Here are some pics I took today. Notice my good old proven 94 SC auto in the background there! If all goes well I'll be taking many more pictures upon delivery!!!!!! YY YIIPPEDYHAWWWW!!!!!

good luck man! looks like a sweet car. All you need is a maf, lid,tb, exhaust and a 150 shot and you'll be down in the 11s. All hail the LS1!

Cool another picture

Oh by the way. Ever since I bought the SC I always wanted to keep it forever. If that happens, eventually it will get restored and modified. It really stayed stock so far though except for the k&n, removed silencer, and replaced my cats and removed resonator(surprise by the dumbass mechanic).

So how many simolians did that cost ya? And is it approved yet? I thought the 35th Anny cars had the checkered graphic thing on the hood?

Anyway, the LS1 is a great powertrain. I'm thinking that since you never modded the SC, this one probably won't get modded *much* either. No? Well, having owned one of the original F-body SS's for awhile, I can attest that it is a fun car. Good luck avoiding races though. Seems everyone has to try their luck against an F-body!

Later!

modifications...

Yup, you guessed right probably. I tend to suffer from the if it aint broke don't fixits. Mostly because I'm poor lol. 21 grand for this beauty. Only problem I see with it is a curb mark on each of 3 of the wheels too bad. Still gorgeous car though, I'll fix the wheels up a bit, they still look great. Another 1200 for a additional 5/60 warranty I'm gonna do I'm pretty sure. I just started checking out z28.com gotta figure out all the mods I'll probably never do! lol. Hey it's got 325hp out of the box supposedly so who cares. I won't wait long to put a k&n on it I'm sure, but beyond that, it'll be a while I'm sure. Probably put money into the SC before the SS. I still like my SC.

snow...

snowtires shmowtires lol. Well though I did have a 4x4 subaru some winters with the SC, I have done the snow thing with the SC. It's got traction control and abs so it's not too bad though it is pretty bad compared to 4x4. The SS shouldn't see the snow I don't think as long as the SC is running. With the SC I didn't have a garage, and I put on a lot of miles so I couldn't baby it. This SS should see about 7k miles a year non-highway mostly, and garaged in the winter. I'll try to keep this one creampuff. Gotta clean out the garage tho!

First off, save your money on the warranty. The GM extended warranty is a huge rip off. Check around on the Gm F-body boards and you can find many complaints.

Second, in order to make the SC go in the snow. Simple solution, Bridgestone Blizacks on all four corners. Grip like hell and I have never been stranded or stuck anywhere with them. I have had them on an XR-7, Mercedes, and Neon RT. Best winter tires I have ever used.

Good luck on the Camaro, it's gorgeous.

I used to have a 95 LT1 6spd TA.. You're gonna LOVE that tranny.. I loved mine so much, I'm putting one behind the windsor I'm dropping in the SC.

They're fast cars, but watch out in the rain.. I've heard of more hydroplaning related accidents with the 4th gen than anything else... my poor TA was one of those statistics too..

Anyways, good luck with that.. if you're gonna "move up" from the SC, I can't think of a better car..
