Looking for opinions
i know there may be alot of you out there who dont like big obnoxious spoilers on mild build cars, and im one of them. but when it comes to oversized PRODUCTION style spoilers i tend to have a soft spot because they usually suit very well. my number one example of this would be the rear wing on a 99 3000gt VR4. but i was looking at aftermarket universal fit 99 Cobra R wings and im curious a.) if anyone has seen a bird with one installed before, and b.) what everyones opinion of one being installed would be. i have an 89 and walking around the car there are alot of design elements that attribute themselves to that generation mustang(pre-facelift but still the same gen.). anyway, what do you all think? im strongly considering it as long as the dimensions work out and i get some positive feedback, haha

You have these options:
http://www.wingswest.com/catalog/For...2/Spoiler-1513 And this: http://www.versusmotorsport.com/#/it..._rear_spoiler/ I don't care too much for those, but I think they are ok. I do not care for the Cobra R wing you are talking about. The best factory-looking one, in my opinion, is this one: http://www.amazon.com/Xenon-5285-89-.../dp/B001GX154K Now, if you want something big, I would suggest this: http://forums.tccoa.com/showthread.p...saleen+spoiler http://forums.tccoa.com/showthread.p...saleen+spoiler It's an adapted Saleen Mustang spoiler. I think it fits the lines of the car much better than the Cobra R spoiler.

yeah that second one saleen one looks pretty good. ive already got a stocker cougar spoiler on my bird, i was just thinkin (though rediculously overkill) that the R wing would look decent on my car, haha. anyone else??
EDIT: for anyone who by chance doesnt know what im refering to its this: http://www.customautotrim.com/bodyki...obrarwing3.jpg Last edited by Lycaon1349; 05-25-2012 at 02:22 PM.. |

now im looking at retrofitting the Active Aero spoiler from a 91-96 3000gt VR4 onto a spare decklid and wiring it into the Firm Ride control switch so it will activate when the firm ride automatically comes when set to "auto" or is active when the switch is set to "on"..... am i crazy or an innovator?? haha
![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJ3RnJSOmpY its a little more low profile than the cobra R spoiler but still somethin that might be interesting to mess with as long as the fitment works and the asthetics are right for the tail end of the bird Last edited by Lycaon1349; 05-29-2012 at 03:10 PM.. |

Yes.
![]() That would be pretty cool. I am not sure it would function the same way with the aerodynamics of this car, but it would look neat.

im sure to some degree at some speed it would make a difference but i just like messing with things like this, the spoilers are cheap, the "activation" aspect of it makes sense. i figure itd be a cool project that nobody's probably seen before

SO... an old customer of mine came into my new job with his VR4 so while he was here i went outside to take some measurements of the rear deck. looks like it might work out. we have a few old 3000gt decks here at work, so im thinkin i might be able to grab one of the less expensive ones, get an old tbird deck, and do some chop'n'weld action to get the fitment perfect. thoughts?

Ted Lyons, "CobraSC"
Did a 3000GT spoiler on an sc. It looked ok. It was not the VR-4 version though. I think he contemplated it but did not find a way to make it fit well.

so i made it happen. my buddy is an auto body painter and i had him paint match the "R" style spoiler i aquired, then we patched redrilled and painted the lid and mounted it up. its not perfect, but its alright for the low key budget i put into it.
![]() ![]() i rendered a quick paintshop image at work yesterday of what itll look like after the cobra wheels go on and i work the suspension a little bit, i think itll make the spoiler flow much better. ill have to figure out something for the front bumper down the road too ![]() |

I'm sorry to say I don't like it. A big chunky angular spoiler looks completely out of place on a streamlined car like the tbird. I think the saleen spoiler would have been a much better choice.
