Anybody else DIY Steering Rack Rebuild?

The job is done now, but I have two leftover o-rings. I bought a Gates seal kit, cleaned, disassembled, reassembled my old power steering rack...but in the directions (both included with the kit AND in the 1989 Ford Service manual) show an extra "rack bushing" that is supposed to use an o-ring. Either one on my kids took my bushing and lost it or the SC has a combined end cap / bushing on the right end of the rack.

I don't remember taking one off FOR SURE and I've found numerous errors in the Ford documentation over the years, so I wouldn't be surprised either way.....just wondering if anyone else encountered this....

Hmm...your 3rd picture looks like there is an o-ring beneath the "piston"....I thought for sure the poston was part of the rack and not removable...

The parts I have pointed out are different though....sometimes these diagrams suck.

How does the car feel after gutting the rack, Chris? Drive it with wide tires on the front at all?
