Best way to add Purple Ice

Been trying to add this stuff to my coolant but cannot simply pour it in the radiator as it is full. I guess I could pour it in the overflow, but I doubt it'll fully work it's way into the cooling system that way. I tried to suck some coolant out of the rad with a coolant tester but the coolant flowed back in from the block and replaced the coolant I had removed. How about I remove the screw on the tube welded to the thermostat housing and pour it into the block from there? Perhaps another option may be to crimp the upper hose when removing coolant from the rad, but I don't wanna break any cords. Or, I may have to bite the messy bullet and let out about a 1/2 gal from the draincock. Crap, I already have three engines worth of old antifreeze from past builds. BTW, what is the best way to legally dispose/recycle that stuff?

For a minute I thought I read illegally and a million fun and interesting ways came to mind. Legally... I think parts stores are required to take a specific amount back each year for recycling. Anything over that and you pay a premium.

Didn't come back from the block (unless you removed the thermostat), it came from the upper radiator hose tube.

crack the valve at the bottom of the radiator and dump it into a container. Then fill the radiator up with the purple ice, and top off the radiator with what you took out. Have the front end jacked up while you do this to keep the radiator as the highest point, higher than the upper tube.

hmm, sorry for the technical answer in the non tech forum.

Auto site

Read on some site, when i was looking for disposal methods, that it was ok to pour down toilet, just not in storm drains or ground, apparently flushing it is an acceptable method of disposal. wont go directly into ground water supply...just a thought....im not going to say i did it.

You're right Mike......if you replace the words 'Valve' and 'tube' with 'thingy' and replace 'radiator' with 'cooling thingy', then I feel your responses could reside happily in the non-tech forum.

I have a drainage field and a shallow sand point well. I won't be dumping anything down the toilet. Want my future kids to not have one big eye in the center of their head(s).

Some cities/towns have household chemical recycling days. I used to work them when I worked in HazMat. You just gather all your old bad stuff and bring it to them and they recycle what they can and properly dispose of the rest. It's usually free and you won't have the hills have eyes people walking around in a few years. Not as much anyways.

Probably not. The ones I worked were kind of an advertising event for the hazmat co. I worked for. They're usually a notch in some city politicians belt too. The only disadvantage is waiting in your car in a line of tree huggers dropping off their AA batteries and flourescent light bulbs. We accepted any quantity as long as it was household and didn't look like it came from an auto garage or other commercial site.

I have 40-50 gallons of used motor oil. Law around here is a private individual cannot transport more than 5gals of oil at one time without a license. So, I bring a tidycats 38lb container of fluid to Checker's about once a month. In about a year I should be rid of it all. I passed off 25 oil filters to my mom who dropped them off at her county's recycling event.

Where is all that oil coming from? Not to mention all those filters..... I didn't know Minnesota had more oil than Texas.
