exploding cutting disc

just a warning heads up on cutting wheels and hand grinders

now i know better but i had time on my hands tools being stolen .

so i decided to cut some parts up for future welding and had some parts needed grinding so i installed a 7 inch cuttin disc on my hand grinder.

it worked great i cut a intake plenum wow great did some flatening of a weld or two then i lifted the grinder from surface it reved free was getting kinda hot lts of drag on motor so i let it rev free to cool down some .

well disc exploded sending 1 piece up into roof where it stuck good 1 peice flew and broke window the last peice the biggest flew off at light speed and stuck right into my abdoman just under ribs cut me 4 inches long and 1/4 deep exept the 1 inch where it stuck in about 1/2 inch deep.

I never felt such pain!!! rib got fractured blood everywhere.
and i was home alone my wife and kids where at la county fair .

talk about pain i started blackin out .

had to pull the peice out of me 2 hrs later i patched up but hurting

anyway dont do like me and use/abuse a tool it will bite!!!

and wow what a bite i never thought a cut off wheel could do such damage never thought it would explde from centrifical force .

now i know that warning dont exeed 1,500 rpm is there for a reason.

my grinder hits 2,700 rpms.

just a heads up so no 1 else does this of course nobody else is as stupid as me thats a given.

Manny

Glad your ok after getting patched up the cutoff grinders are dangerious one of the guys working at the Chassies shop had a moment when his cutoff disck 1/4 thick 5" wide exploded lucky he was wearing a face sheild one pice hit dead center of the left eye it glanced off but left a deep cut in the plastic one pice went into his arm. Man the Fab Master Manny you never know what can happen with high speed grinders lucky for us the best Fabrication man in the club is healing after that ordeal

Question?

This all your worried about "PICTURES" this seams like the NHRA drag racing 50% go to see death blood and guts to see it in person. Have respect the man got hurt thats a serious deal think he cares about pictures at this moment? or are you the ones that like to see that kind of thing to get there jollys off on. Just take a moment think of what he went through if it where you pictures I think being lucky to be alive is most importiant dont you?

Pictures like that so graphic the SCCoA its a family club young childern see this its not the place for that its personal should be kept off the boards. Or sent in private e-mail Manny is a good freind his condition is more impotiant than pictures

Slow down drag boy. Manny is a good guy and I am glad he is not hurt as I said earlier. He seems to be good and was well enough to post not to mention he didn't mention if he went to the hospital. From what I read he performed self-aid and buddy care on himself. Good man to do that. You took this the wrong way though. And yes, I have posted pics of my injuries. Also, FYI, the gore does not bother me, I have seen so much worse under fire while helping my wounded brothers in Iraq. I do not get my "jollies" from others misery. I only asked what alot of other members on here would have posted soon enough anyways.

Actually, if you really JUST wanted a picture, one "PICS" would have been sufficient or you could have emailed or PM'ed manny (if you know him that well) for a picture. The way you have posted this is a very transparent attempt to make fun of ongoing issues here on the boards.

To partially empathize with the situation, I cut three of my finger tips off this year and they got sewed back on by 20 stitches. You have more of a Miller injury, though. Your injury surpasses mine. Get well soon.

I took pics of mine, Miller showed pics of his, so lets keep the battlewound pictures comin! I wanna see PICS, PICS, PICS!!!

Look, I meant no harm and I am not the only one asking for them. I am not aware of the issues that have been going on other than seeing little bits here and there and it seems isolated between a select few. The way I posted was not an attempt at anything other than I am sorry he got hurt and asked for some pics in a funny, laugh out loud, kind of way. If Manny is offended he will say something.
