Help on diagnosis
Hey guys, Thanks in advance
I have a 1994 SC auto that I am letting my daughter use for her first car. It has been very good, but I have a problem now that I can't figure out. It idles good, but has no power, in or out of gear. It won't even pull up on a set of ramps. It happened about two weeks ago, it started runnung bad, and spluttering when I accelorated. THe Actron computer I have said the MAF was out of range. So I pulled one off the 1995 SC I have and put it on the 1994. Problem solved......for two days. Now It has no power, and when I make a WOT run, the manifolds, converters, pipes and resonator glow cherry red. I asked my mechanic, and he said it sounded like the MAF had gone bad again, so I bought a new one and swapped them out. Reset the computer. No change. I have gradually replaced over time as normal maintainance, the O2's, egr, egr solenoid, fuel filter, plugs wires coil. Fuel pressure is 30ish at idle, not sure at wot. I have a fuel pump to install to see if that is it. Can any of you look at the data stream frames below and tell me if you see anything wierd? My mechanic then told me it sounda like its running lean. I dropped the exhaust to see if that changed anything like plugged cats. It didn't I see the knock sensor may be bad, I have a new one of those, to put on, and a new EGR pressure sensing switch. 1 of 2 332 ENG EGR Flow Insufficient 2 of 2 225 ENG Dyn Response Test Knock If the balancer moved the timing could be off. Balancers are known to fail on these cars.

704 ~ 0.8 (TP MODE C/T) 708 ~ 0.8 (TP MODE C/T) 800 ~ 2.4 (TP MODE P/T) 1856 ~ 0.8 (TP MODE C/T) 1816 ~ 4.5 (TP MODE WOT) 3572 ~ 4.5 (TP MODE WOT) 4144 ~ 4.5 (TP MODE WOT) 4348 ~ 4.4 (TP MODE WOT) 4008 ~ 2.4 (TP MODE P/T) 2836 ~ 0.8 (TP MODE C/T) 1504 ~ 0.8 (TP MODE C/T) 1936 ~ 4.5 (TP MODE WOT) 3840 ~ 4.5 (TP MODE WOT) Most of these events looked to be 1 or 2 minutes apart...were you constantly running/gunning the throttle up and down while testing? Or did you move and hold? >scrunching noise at the front Oh no....ouch. That does sound like a balancer problem. |

I did vary the throttle. It would not hit the rev limit even at WOT. I will check the balancer tonight

Could it possibly be clogged converters? my son got a 91 F250 for free from his dad cause the truck would idle great but did not have anypower, Turned out that converter was clogged punched some holes in and drove it from alabama to Ga no probs....so just a thought

Bad balancer it was. Zoom Zoom, now it will burn out through 1st and chirp second Thanks for all the responses.

i don't even bother with those part changers we call mechanics today. i could make a better guessing game out of these cars than they could......well maybe.$$$$$
