R&R Heads, Loan of an Intake Manifold

Gentleman I need to borrow an intake manifold until I pull mine off and then I can return it.

I went to see Tom yesterday about my heads. He will rework a set of heads for me with stock valves, and port the intake and exhaust side of them for me. He needs a manifold because in Tom's price he also gasket matches the intake to match the heads.
Tom's new ARP headstuds are now ordered in the correct length so no more grinding studs. None of those stupid 12 point nuts anymore either, he orders them in with hex nuts. I also think in my price he includes those new style washers that are larger and pull the heads down more evenly from stud to stud.

I need this ASAP because I'm shooting with Tom to have the heads done by the end of March. I want to start this thing the next weekend after we finish up with Ron's car. He is doing his the last weekend in March I want to do mine and finish it the following weekend.

Nick is going to come down on Thursday night and work with us. I will be taking off the Friday I am hoping this baby will be done worst case on Sunday. Nick and I can begin Friday morning and by the time the guys show up I should be down to the block with the old heads off.

Ryan is it possible to use your garage to do this? Someone with a compressor would be most advantageous.

Sean maybe your place? If not I want you there Sean please when we do this. It would seem too strange to do one of these without you...lol.

The exhaust has just been off so it should be no problem at all dropping that again. I replaced the right side motor mount while the tranny was out so that is done as well. The stud on the back of the block for the fuel pressure regulator has been out and back in so that will be easy.

Too long to leave in one post so I'm adding to it here.

Need a tap set(Sean, Axl8r?), there is no way we're putting on new heads without cleaning out each and every bolt hole first. We have learned the hard way why this needs to be done.

I'll get a complete set of pintel caps and seals for the injectors from CTC and rework those.

Good time to pick up a new crank sensor at CTC as well.

Replace the crank bolt and washer

Maybe one of those lower oil cooler hose assemblies as well

Someone good with a spray bomb to hide the white that is still on the firewall...lol

New belts as well(Gawd this is making me ill just contemplating the costs),

Set up teams to do various tasks, we can work that out ahead of time.

Tools, tools and more tools from all the guys.

Guys with long skinny arms( Andrew,Kirk?) LOL. Little guys to shove under the car(V6 Sprout)..;-)))

I will provide food and drinks, that's the least I could do to show appreciation for the help.

Dave I don't know the part numbers but the crank sensor is like $67.00 vs $120.00 something from Ford, same with the cam sensor it was like $42.00 from CTC. The pintle caps and seals for the injectors are something like $6.00 per injector.

I now Dave doing the valves and making them bigger would be nice but...I would need at least 36lb injectors and then if I do that I need a C&L MAF with 36lbs sampling tube. Click, click, click goes the cash register.

As it is this probably going to hit $3500-$4000.00 by the time I am done with the transmission, clutch and heads. I just can't do anymore this year. I need my exhaust finished up where Sean had his done and that'll be $2-$300 as well.

I still have no idea where I am going to get my manifolds ported, Tom wants way too much to do these and I don't have weeks to ship crap back and forth between here and the USA for someone to do them down there. I can get my hands on spare manifolds and I think you have a spare set too with EGR from the XR7.

Les, you are welcome to use the lower intake on my spare motor if you're stuck for one ... we would just have to get it unbolted from the motor. Maybe somebody else has one laying around already removed, if not, come on by the dealership for mine.

I'll put aside a crank bolt + washer and the oil cooler water tube for you as well if you like.

cheers
Ed N.

Thanks Ed you have been such a great help through all of this and I truly appreciate it. I think myabe Ryan might have an intake still sitting on his 90 motor, not sure.

Yes please set aside a crank bolt and washer and that tube, I may not use the tube but it's nice to be prepared. I cannot think of anything else at the moment that I need. Gasket set will come from Matt(AXL8R). Bolts from Tom.

Ah geez I need an EGR tube Ed and I know those stupid things are like $90.00

My spare intake is built up on my spare motor.
I highly recommend the pricess auto power steering puller - man worked like a DREAM!!!!!!!!!!!
had heck of a time with drivers driverside #3 ex stud, intead of the nut comming off, the stud turned, with the steel bracket still pinched between two nuts, wrapping around as I turned!!!!!!!!!Should have got the sawzall out sooner, blew good part of an hour messing with this!!!
I have the exhaust free, most of the upper stuff off, getting ready to remove Fuel rail, intake, and heads.
12:30 stopping for lunch now.

Les,

I've still got the lower intake that came off my car sitting here in my garage. You can use it if you like, so long as I get a mint one back in return. I think Tom will dunk yours to clean it up for free probably too.

Let me know.

Best regards,

Sean

Thanks for all the offers guys, much appreciated.

Steve if you could bring your spare to coffee Wednesday night at Coffee Time in Scarborough that would be great.

At this point I have to seriously reconsider if I should just have Tom do a set of stock heads. The buck expenditure here is getting out of hand. I have to ask myself if $400.00 spent on head porting and intake manifold is worth it right at this point. She's got 218K on her with the original block, how far do I want to push this old girl this year?

That $400.00 would get me the jack shaft pulley from Ryan and a good way into the ASP underdrive pulleys, and that's around 25HP in easy bolt ons. Hell I;d be up tp around 260RWHP and that ain't too shabby.

Les, I have Ron's spare as he said. I also have my spare from the '90, but I don't think you would like that one, all hacked up. If Ron has said you can use his, then I'll just pass it along to you.

Les, try for the head work. You can always slap them on a new bottom end anyway. Plus if you wheere to do a new block, how much bigger would you like the heads to be?

I'll have to talk to you about the garage.
