Paint Job Progress Pics (dial-up beware)!!!
These pictures were mainly for me to log "before" images, not only to view afterwards and compare with the finished product, but also to look back later and reference problem spots, or areas that were fixed. These are only at the early stages of disassembly and preperation, but they are worth looking at, especially where you can see previous repairs from collisions earlier in the life of my SC. You'll notice some rust marks on the paint that was left by the skirt rails, but overall, there is really no rust to be concerned about.
This is after Don removed all the skirts, and door moldings. ![]() This is a shot of the front quarter and driver's door with the skirts removed. ![]() Here is the rear quarter on the same side, which was previously replaced. (notice is was white??) No front bumper.... No rear bumper... Stripped inner door, disassembled... Now, onto the previous accident repair. These shots will show the difference between the rear quarter on the driver's side, which was repaired, compared to the side that has not been repaired. REPAIRED: NOT REPAIRED (factory original): REPAIRED (now rusting, yes...rust): NOT REPAIRED (factory original): I'm guessing the front bumper is not original, considering this picture clearly shows there has been front-end impact at some point. Lastly, if anyone knows who this is....please call me ASAP!!! He is wanted for being very helpful, and much appreciation is owed. ![]() I will be updating this thread, and adding more pictures in seperate posts within the thread as soon as more progress is made. Ohhhh Yesssss!!!
Bill,
This is great! I can't wait to see your car when she's all done! It looks like Don is doing a great job of stripping her down in preparation for cleaning up the body and applying the fresh paint. I really hope you're going to swap in those sweet looking '96-'97 door handles! Oh, and I don't ever recall seeing that guy in the last shot before. Who is he, and what does he charge?! ![]() ...The only guy I know who would take a week's holidays from work to help with another member's car. Les, if you're getting those touch ups done to the Cougar this week, I strongly suggest you get out to my place to grab that SC rear cover so that Don can prep and paint it at the same time. Best regards, Sean |

Steve,
Bill and Paul have their car at a different body shop than where mine was done. This guy is the one who did the complete body and paint job on Les' Cougar a couple of years ago. His name is Don, but I'm not too sure what his shop is called. Best regards, Sean |

Thanks Sean.
Steve, the shop is called Eastern Collision and Paint (I believe). I will have some more pics tomorrow, and will post them in the evening. |

Who'se the fat guy with the beard, I wouldn't let hin near your car if I were you, especially with a drill in his hands..LOL.
Thanks Sean for the bumper and helping me suff it into the Cougar, now mind you I may never get it out again but what the hell. I'll be heading down to Don's after the DVP insanity eases a bit, around 9:30. I think the prep guy is going to start working Bill's car today. If the weather man co-operates or I have a bay at Don's I'm going to pull my bumbers and skirts today and start getting them prep'd. I'll just stick my plates on the rebar with wire ties for now. Jason I need that rear rebar from you that you took off Johnny O's car. I have time to clean and undercoat that sucker before I put it on. If anyone wants me use the cell or house phone it will be forwarded to the cell anyway. 416-336-5967(home) 416-274-9837(cell) Last edited by Les Borda; 05-12-2003 at 08:11 AM.. |

The preperation stages are progressing nicely, as seen in the first shot. Almost the entire vehicle has been sanded down, and all moldings have been removed. Tomorrow, Don will be painting the new upper and lower door hinges, and removing the doors for installation. I will be taking more pictures tomorrow also, right before Paul and I begin troubleshooting the idle problem I still have, since taking it into the body shop.
And the mystery surrouding this man still continues.... ![]() |

The Thunderbird SC lettering is going to be filled in, but I have no idea how I would do any lettering on it after it is filled. No one makes those stainless letters for Cougar XR7, and even if they did, it would sit on top not recessed which might look a little strange.
Sean I was able to save those mounting tabs by drilling out the rivets, sandblasting them, and painting them, I drilled out the broken bolt and Don welded in another one. Today I may get mine inside if Don can make some room and start tearing off the bumbers and skirts. If not then I can work on Bill's or the Jag that Don is trying to finish up. Lots to do. Perhaps Pauls car can get started on today I don't know. |

Les,
I'm glad to see that you're finally going to put that bumper cover to good use! Don't forget about the two broken strut tabs. I'll look forward to seeing pics of it fitted on your Cougar! ...And seeing the finished product in person, of course! Best regards, Sean |
