Talking getting that hood up and out of the way...

Well as most of you guys know, we move a lot of engines in and out around here. The biggest pain is working around the hood. Well, I am going to share a little trick we came up with.....here goes.
Get a peice of 1 1/2 PVC pipe go with the "40" as it is a lot stronger. Cut it to 25 1/2" long. Now pull the stock shocks off the hood and place this pipe between the pin in the hood and the strut tower on the back side. You only need one of these pipes, you can move it from side to side as your work needs.
This will give you plenty of room to work and even pull the engine out without removing the hood. Sure saves a lot of time pulling and replacing the hood and getting it to fit again...Simple, eazy and it won't break the windsheild, nor do you have to remove any of that stuff either...
Hope this works for you guys and helps to save some time on the next trip under the hood... ..Rich

This makes it a one person job, plus you know the hood still fits when you are done... ......Rich

I don't take the hinges off, I take out the 4 star bolts that hold the hood to the hinge. Well my big block car has one of those stripped out, so I'll have to grind it down, or take the hinges off and get new hinges. Although I think I want to try to get a lift off Cobra R hood for that car when the 460 finally takes a home in the car.

Cool.

Do you know if you can get a cobra r cowl hood in lift off form like you can w/ the cervini's? I like the cowl better than the ram air especially for a big block powered SC.

Just an idea but why cant you just lay down a blanket on the roof/windshield and rest the hood against it? No unbolting required. Sounds like a good idea to me.

The edges of the hood will hit and crack the glass long before the front of the hood will lay back onto the windsheild. Basically, "it don't work that way". Trust me, a certain person here accidentally did that to one of my cars for me.

Been there, done that.........agust of wind got one the first time I made one of these pipes. It was longer for "more" room. The hood was almost straight up, and the wind did the rest...That is why you only go 25 1/2 tall.....Thanks for the input Racecougar,[Rod] . ............Rich
