need advise quick

my g/f is gonna buy me 2 of my 4 new tires as long as I can order them today. I was looking at the bf goodrich kdw. my question is how wide of a rear tire can I go. I was hoping to go with a stagered setup. 245/40/18 up front and 265/35/18 out back. will this setup work? or will it rub. the car hasnt been lowered. I'm not sure if the tires will be the same height.

Assuming you have the wheels to go with them, I'd go at least 275 in back. I run 285's on mine but I have custom wheels and rolled fender lips. No rubbing though.

edit:

245/45/18 on 8.5"s on front and 275/40/18 on 9.5's in back would be tight. 26.6" nominal diameter. (stock height)

I have 295/35/18's on mine and like David since having rolled the fenders I have no rubbing with wheels designed for a 2005 Mustang.

One thing to keep in mind on tire selection is if the diameter of the front tires
compared to the rear is to different you can cause problems with the ABS System. The system will "see" the diameter difference as a difference in rotational speed and can cause the ABS system to actuate too early or too late depending on the situation. Also you can throw a ABS light as well.

I have 245/40/18's on the front and while Duffy is probably correct about the tire mismatch, my rears are only about 1/2 inch taller than the fronts and I have not had any issues with ABS. The only time I notice the ABS light coming on is while doing a burnout at the track or on the dyno. If you do a search on my user name you can see pictures with them both on and off the car.

The tire sizes I listed have the exact same diameter front and back.
