HOW-To Install Pro-M Mass Air Flow Meter by Ron Wiemer

Report on Pro-M 75 mm Bullet from Best Products on a 95 SC auto. My SC is basically stock and under WOT, I had noticed black smoke coming from exhaust and inspection of the exhaust pipes showed built up black carbon from a too rich mixture. The boost gauge at WOT was approximately 12 lbs. After changing plugs and wires, removing the air silencer and adding K&N panel filter along with swapping the stock MAF with the 75 mm Pro-M Bullet, at WOT the black smoke is gone and the boost pressure is approximately 14 lbs. I chose the black plastic model and installation was a simple 15 minute swap. The only thing about the installation was where the MAF enters the rubber seal to the filter box. It needs to be inserted all the way up to the electrical connector on the MAF. As far as performance, the low end has not changed, but the high end seems quicker up to the speed limiter at approximately 130 mph. The company claims 8 to 10 hp, but who knows?. I feel it will enhance future mods of exhaust, TB, Raised Top. As far as looks, it being black plastic, it blends in with the intake hose and filter box and is unnoticeable, giving a clean stock appearance. Price was $205.47 including shipping directly from Best Products www.pro-flow.com and a two week waiting period. My reason for choosing this product was for ease of installation and to be able to keep the original OEM parts swapped in storage to be able to restore the vehicle to stock specs at a later date if needed. My opinion is that the later SCs rated at 230 hp can be modified with bolt ons to 300 hp by changing the MAF, TB, exhaust, pulleys and 3/4 in. raised top, all this without getting into the motor and the option of easily converting back to stock except for the exhaust and the total price of mods around $2000. Next step exhaust, until then be SCing ya. Ron
