    Heater control illumination

Note the 4 holes on the unit: The tools are a pair of U-shaped narrow rods that you insert into the holes on each side. These are commonly used to remove car stereos. The tools are pushed in until they release clips inside (note the indentations on the ends...they sometimes lock in place...

    Heater control illumination

Hih...something isn't right ;) This is my '90 Anny: ...you can pull the fan speed knob off to inspect that part, but not much to tell without removing and checking wiring, I'd be inclined to simply source another control unit.

    Coolant and brake leak

Getting the thermostat housing to reliably seal is a known issue. Any work done lately? Solutions include careful cleaning and lightly sanding the mating surface on the housing, or, replacing the housing if it is too far gone, warped/rusted etc. If you take it out, I'd effort a replacement on...

    Remote unlock

And while we're on the topic, an FYI for those not yet aware - after you unlock the driver's door using the keypad, immediately pressing 3/4 will unlock the passenger door. Immediately pressing 5/6 will pop the trunk. Simply pressing 7/8 and 9/0 simultaneously at any time will lock the doors.

    Remote unlock

My '90 SC has an aftermarket alarm w/fob that will lock/unlock doors and pop trunk. I added a single gas lift to the trunk so it will swing open when popped. In your example, you can check trunk latch operation via glove box button...with the trunk open, use something to trigger the latch as if...

    power steering pump

I got my last SC/EVO-centric ps pump from AutoZone, with the reservoir, but without the EVO, which I moved over from the old one. If the fresh pump doesn't come with a new o-ring for the reservoir, buy a pump seal kit...

    Stumped on head gasket symptoms

Same heads? Crack checked/inspected? Just get your hands on a combustion tester...AutoZone, as an example, free-rents a kit you can use. Just fill the tube w/the test fluid, set it on the expansion tank, run the engine and squeeze the bulb to draw gases into the fluid. If it changes color, you...

    Code 49

    Works for me.

    Code 49

The paste is just doing it's job, assuming you've used the right compound. Keep in mind the pedestal is warmer than the DIS, which relies on air flow to remove engine heat in that area. I usually just give the mount and sensor bottom a bath in brake clean. Given the age of our SCs, corrosion is...

    Teves gasket part number

Photos help a lot, thanks. Nothing jumps out that screams fail, disc looks ok, filter looks to be oriented ok. O-ring looks ok when loose, but seems swollen when assembled, I think you know ;) I would post a want ad for another. If you can find a round one that can tolerate brake fluid it...

...what position is the plastic filter ring in? Not flipped, is it?

    Teves gasket part number

I assume you're talking about the square-shoulder rubber o-ring... I've tried to source those, and came up dry. Not sure it would let the motor shaft jam, but anything is possible. Do you have a photo of yours? Did you double confirm the slotted/ear'd drive disc is indexed/aligned correctly...

Crank and sputter but no start

Missed the edit window...again ;) Those MAF readings may simply be the result if an incomplete/incorrect code read. I think your symptoms point elsewhere. Dancing tach when warming up is most likely co-incidental. Again, the engine is just doing a drive cycle test. Root cause(s) are always...

Crank and sputter but no start

Did you try cleaning it first? My 35th had the same issue when I first got it. It's random when the ECU doesn't get valid signals and is forced to supply look-up values from default tables to make the engine run, then later the ECU will check for valid signals sometime during the drive...
