    Switching ABS to Conventional.

Switching ABS to conventional Wow, two years and a lot of you have used this thread to change over your brakes. When I originally started this switch (in the planning stages), a friend of mine that builds hot rods helped me with the engineering aspect of it. He had a manual (Wagner brake...

    '89 SC 5 speed W. Canada

I have a friend that told me he'd give me $500.00 for my car, but so far no cash. I want to get rid of it before the snow hits, if possible. 1989 SC 5-speed 328,000 kms, blown head gaskets. Car is complete, will sell whole preferably, but will part it out if I can get enough to make it...

Two First for me in Gas History

Gas prices Gee, you guys sure are lucky to have such cheap gas. For anyone who wants to read up on some oil industry history, here's a few good reads. Try Paper Money by Adam Smith (printed in the 1970's) that describes how us folks in the Western world give the Arabs a pile of paper in...

How many of you guys are in this for the long haul

I guess I'm gonna have to bow out also, after blowing my head gaskets a couple weeks back. I paid $3900.00 for my '89 5 speed just over 4 years ago, after owning an '83 XJ6 Jag for a year (and some of you guys think these cars are hard to keep on the road). I've not spent a lot of money on it...

    Switching ABS to Conventional.

Switching ABS to Conventional Super XR7, I used the Crown Vic proportioning valve. You're definitely one up on me with the specs on the two valves. Where did you even find that info? My car worked fine till a couple weeks ago, when the head gaskets blew. ( I'm in deep mourning now)...

    Switching ABS to Conventional.

Mine was, and still is, a 5-speed car. I can't remember what year T-bird I got my booster from, it was a couple years ago. The car was green, if that helps. (just joking) The hole was hidden for the other bolt, exactly like Dlsmoke says. He obviously got the same booster as me. Ask the auto...

    Switching ABS to Conventional.

I've been driving mine converted for a couple years now, and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. Brakes work fine. John V.O.

    Switching ABS to Conventional.

ABS swap Randy, in your last post, you stated you were going to buy a new booster and master cylinder. It was unclear to me, make sure you get the skinny booster. You will be real sad, if you spend several hours bolting in the thick booster from the Crown Vic, only to find there isn't enough...

switching to conventional brakes The "low line" description was someone else's in one of the above posts, that I took to mean a non supercharged, regular T-bird, which has a regular brake booster, and diagonal braking system. The block you refer to low down on the frame, is for the rear...

Anyone wants to see the last 4 pics, please give me a very detailed tutorial on how to upload pics. My friends have given up and abandoned me, and I'm not computer literate enough to figure this out. John V.O.

    Switching ABS to Conventional.

There are 3 of us here at work, trying to post these pics, I have 4 more that the system won't let me upload. Ignore the fuzzy ones. Hopefully you can see where the plug goes into the side of the CrownVic master cylinder. You can see the extra line that I had to coil up, because I was too lazy...

    Switching ABS to Conventional.

First off, Flip, I have to apologize for my mistake. My Crown Vic master cylinder does actually only have 2 lines coming from it,(after reading your post, I went out, flipped the hood, and saw my mistake), but the front brake line goes to the "block" from the Crown Vic. Make sure you take that...

    Switching ABS to Conventional.

Dave is right, it does fit. My car has a 5-speed, and I did not have to remove the clutch cylinder or any of its parts. If you are able to look at the donor car for the booster, you will notice there isn't much room between the end of the brake master cylinder and the inner wheelhousing. I'm...

    Switching ABS to Conventional.

Sorry Flip, I didn't notice your post till now. I simply unplugged them, and tied them out of the way, in case some restorer 30 years from now finds this hulk in a junkyard and thinks he can fix it. I stated earlier that I just pulled the fuse out of the fusebox to make the abs light on the...

    Switching ABS to Conventional.

The Crown Vic master cylinder has 3 lines coming out of it. Two of them for the front brakes, and 1 line for the rear brakes. When you take out the useless piece of crap, make sure you trace the lines, so the right ones go to the right places, but that kinda goes with saying, right? I type all...

Don't ask me about vacuum with a bigger camshaft. One of the engine guys here, is far more qualified than I am. I vacuum gauge easily goes to 20 when I am coasting. That's about all I can offer on that subject. John V.O.

head gskts- Manual or Auto Trans

In reference to the post - It finally happened - Rick, are you serious? You have been a member here for quite a while. You guys obviously know a lot about these cars. Does it really make a difference to the head gaskets on the engine, whether the car has an auto or manual trans? I don't see...

    Switching ABS to Conventional.

I'm glad I'm not alone on that issue. Believe it or not, I have a friend that bought a '96 Camaro, for the drivetrain, to install into a 1937 Chevy coupe, and he's planning to install the ABS, as well. I tried to tell him not to, as the car, once finished, will live for another hundred years...
