92 Thunderbird Sc overheating Help

Hi I have a 92 thunderbird sc with 57 thousand miles. Water pump was recently changed. Spark plugs have been done, thermostat has been done after water pump was changed car seems to be leaking or burning coolant I’m not sure which. Runs good when driving but has rough idle occasionally and needed coolant to be refilled. Engine starts to overheat I’m guessing I should do a pressure test. We think it might be bad radiator. Any advice or thoughts on what it could be.

For a head gasket issue, check for white smoke out of the tail pipe and bubbles in the coolant tank. The thermostats housing is known to leak, check the around the thermostat jacket and gasket.

Mileage is a little low for waterpump failure. How well has coolant system been maintained over the past 31 years or how long have you owned it? I've had 2 that had really old coolant develop leak(s) where aluminum timing cover fastens to cast block.

I am not sure how the car has been maintained I am the third owner of the car and have owned it for a year driving it pretty frequently.

Verify your radiator fan is coming on... If ac works turn on ac and make sure fan turns on also... If ac doesn't work drive car around for 15 or so mins (to operating temp) then park with hood up and let idle keeping any eye on temp gauge and make sure the fan is coming on

What temp was the new thermostat? Did the person who put it in swear it was installed the correct direction?

What process was followed after each time the cooling system was opened and refilled for related repairs?

What does 'start to overheat', mean, exactly?

Do you have an OBDI code reader?

Do you have a laser temp gun?

Good point kmt I thought the same on mine because the temp gauge rides pretty high which I hear is common
