1993, I replaced the blower motor resistor today. Does anyone know what the 3 small wires go to? After the installation, the fan works, A/C compressor will engage, (needs to be charged) but I am only getting air thru the defroster. When the vent button is pushed the air remains exiting the defroster.

thanks.

Defrost is the default mode when there is low/no vaccum. No supply to the control head or the control, lines or the actuators are leaking. Maybe something got unplugged when you were working on? If the the blower motor is working, not sure what wires your asking about? Does it only work on high speed? Is it manual system or Auto temp?

thanks Doug, There are 5 wires on the resistor; the hot orange, black ground and 3 smaller gauge wires of yellow, purple and brown. I had breakfast with my mechanic friend this AM and he said the smaller wires are related to the blower speeds. The fan's variable speeds are working correctly.
More info:
the blower motor stopped working a few years ago, and I pulled it out to check it. But never got back to the car until this year. My friend diagnosed the resistor as bad and I replaced it. The caveat may be I hooked the 2 small hoses that had to be unhooked to remove the blower motor up backwards? I thought I had them correct by the natural bend and fit of the hoses. Or maybe when I pulled the unit out of the dash one of the vacuum lines came loose, but I tried to be careful that didn't happen. There is a lot more going on with the hvac system than my skills can keep up with.
