Current Prices for "Nice" Super Coupes

Fox mustangs at over 2.6 million sold appears to be two and a half times the total sales of the Thunderbird MN12 and that would be for a reason, just way more popular... I agree with 35th the same year mustangs are a bit over rated , I had at least a dozen of those over the years but found the MN12 chassis better in handling , ride and looks but the fox has its advantage of better engine bay for bigger engines etc , and lighter.
The Iseecars page shows high for-sale prices , couldn't see the *sold* prices .. Covid seems to have made people go into panic buy mode , that panic is over .. prices posted only means what someone wants or hoping to get .. there will always be anomalies high and low .
The Ebay add that SC AL just posted is a nice clean looking car and probably a better [ ie: reasonable ] example of expected sale prices ... something to consider, for that 16K Lber expects a person could buy two of the car just sold and still have enough left over for weekend trip.
But .. people should try to sell for what the vehicle is worth to them, foolish if they don't , if they get it great ... but to not expect others to point out facts and statistics of real sales prices is just irrational self deception .

I'm almost 40, pretty good financially. I Owned 2 SCs. I'm in the market and looking hard for one. All these cars over $15k..... smh very few people are even looking for an SC. These cars priced so high just keep sitting there. Sorry I love a tbird sc, they just are not valuable like that. I'm willing to spend 10k and to me I'm the last one who will ever but it. I'd never get my money back. I'm still looking tho.

Am I a sucker for paying $8k for my 1990 35th car? I flew in and drove it home back in July.
Everything I found local to me was trashed and not represented well in person. This was the nicest 35th I could find that was in my budget. 49k miles and it was a 2 owner clean car. I love it though. Hopefully the tide turns in the next 5 years and these cars will apricate a little bit.

That sounds like an amazing deal to me!!

If memory serves me Ira Robinsons Peral white 95 SC 5spd sold for 12k roughly on Bring a Trailer. His car had all the bells, whistles and SCU go fast fun parts to boot. Wasnt a true 5spd car but again up there with one of the nicest in the club.

Ken Wagner's turbo build SC brought similar money and again was one of the nicer end cars of the club. IMO thats the ceiling now for these cars and frankly for a while it felt like 5k was top dollar.

Also for a while these cars were worth more in parts value than sold complete. So the value of them has certainly shifted in our favor but certainly not the money of Mustangs of this Era.

I would also have to think a car that was known for mechanical failures from day 1 (headgaskets) probably left prior owners with negative memories more so than positives.

I have to wonder how many head gaskets failed while under warranty, or even the first 5 years. I have seen cases with NA 3.8, and SC, where the owner, or inexperienced mechanic, does a coolant flush/change, and not long after this, has head gasket issues. Even with the bleeder open, it is hard to get all the air out. My 90 SC auto, with 170K miles, has only had a water pump, belts, a lower radiator hose, and fluid changes, done to the engine. I like to see some temperature on the gauge, before any boost. It did have plugs done by the original owner in 1993. Leaks everywhere, though.o_O

Ya, there is probably something to that , I have also seen some terrible factory deck machine work on the blocks which would not help ... but every car has poor design or workmanship issues ... all becomes irrelevant if you like the car enough .. buy a new daily driver family car brand x for 30+K , it depreciates to half in 4 years ... drop 15K into an SC or whatever and enjoy for a very long time .

I plan on buying one someday but I'm waiting on a mint 94-95 manual transmission stock low mileage car. I don't care how long it takes. One year, 10 years, whatever. I don't want another project. My 87 Grand National with 170k miles has worn me out on fixing up a car over the past 18 years.

The problem with the supercoupes is few preserved them. They all got driven, modded, and run into the ground.

I’ve always wanted a SC. I was looking for a 1994-95 or a 1990 35th. I preferred a 5sp, but settled on a 1990 35th with the automatic. Mileage was low, good condition and it was priced in my budget.

When the conversation turns to what anything is worth, I tell them that I know exactly it's value. It's always what someone is willing to pay for it, no more, and no less.;). The selling price is how I gauge a market. I just watched this really nice looking 1995 SC auto sell on eBay. Check it out.

So I actually ended up buying this car lol. I had a 94 TBird in high school. Was looking for a while for a nice one that was realistically priced, and here we are. The car is in great shape, will post some pics once it’s clean .

Welcome to the club. That SC looked good to me, and a decent price for its condition. Glad you got it.

Congrats! Welcome to the club indeed.

Most all my cars were bought cheap knowing what I was facing, The time, parts and money involved were worth it knowing that the ones I now have are are all good cars and I wouldn't hesitate to get in one to go anywhere. They are built how I wanted and all are fun to drive although they are very different in terms of mods.
For me to pay twelve or higher for a stock low mileage car that I would then be faced with putting money into for the usual 30 year old items thus pushing the cost of ownership even higher and still have a stock car.

Ultimately, a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I was willing to pay a little more than market for the years I preferred, which were 89-90, and a 5spd. Found one with 82K miles and snatched it up from a collector warehouse. Going from a warehouse where it was driven 100-miles a year for 20yrs to getting driven every weekend things were bound to fail. I have replaced sensors, belts, hoses, and now an ECM. I will continue to enjoy it another 6months or a year and will sell it to another enthusiast who values it as I did.

Well I have been here for a long time. I have bought and sold 18 MN12 cars half SC`s. I would buy them not running and try to preserve them as I loved these cars with all engines. I did rebuilds of engines, trans rear ends, wiring, body work and paint. You name it. They were hard sells back then as I got into the game around 1998. I left the MN12 game in 2016 only because the cars were getting old and parts were hard to come by. I needed to fuel my passion of rear wheel drive by buying a 2015 supercharged Mustang GT. Had to do trans work on that too but I guess I always look at old Tbirds for sale even know I got rid of all the spare parts I had for them. My dream was to stuff a blown Coyote into a SC as 800 hp is easy to obtain in one of these engines. I guess I`m too old now to do it but you still gotta dream. Yes a car is only worth what someone else is willing to pay.

"I guess I`m too old now"... with all due respect ... bullschite ...unless you are on a ventilator hooked up to machines strapped to a bed then find a way to do it ... you can always ask for local help , lots of people would be quite happy to be involved in a project like that , there is a 4.6 supercharged out there , looked like a really nice car , granted it was a very involved project, but as always , you can buy the common version of a dream car off the showroom floor, or [ subjectively of course ] build your own that is better.. ...., I would obviously go turbos for the easy 1000+ hp .

I am looking for a decent 95 SC, to put in a GT500 motor into.

These cars are a tough sell. Had my 95 listed for months at a fair price. Not a single serious buyer even looked at the car. I'm holding it through winter. Plenty of low mile cars for sale for months around the 10-12k mark. I was well under that. View attachment 98507
I’m pretty sure this is the car I was saving the money for, is this one in Illinois? If it is and you still have it I’m interested in it.
