Engine races/high idle

I have a 1990 SC that I bought new. Last fall, before I put it away for the winter the engine would race at a high rpm.
Any ideas on what I should look at first?
Thanks!

I had the same issue , before I put the car away in the fall the engine was constantly racing ... took a while to figure it out , many hours of driving and tinkering , finally realized I was not lifting my foot off the accelerator .
I can't be the only one thinking that .:p

If it makes a honking goose noise when shutting off the motor, it’s a bad IAC valve. A vacuum leak could also cause a high idle.

Thanks, good advice. Google search said it may be the IAC, but first step is to use my code scanner.
Oh no, not Google :). The IAC can be quickly tested by just unplugging it. If the fast idle slows down, or the engine stalls, the IAC is probably working. If it stays high, or even it doesn't, disconnect the TPS, inspect connector, and spray with WD40. Reconnect. I use a 90° pick to release it. If still high, then possible vacuum leak, or the EEC is commanding increased idle for some reason. What is the RPM? My 90SC auto does that idle thing on occasion. I've cleaned the IAC, cleaned connectors. Seems to help. My 89 SC 5spd., idle hangs up at 1,100 rpm, now and then. I ignore it, and it fixes itself, after a few minutes, or on restart. If the PCM sees low voltage, it will raise the idle. I have a bag of new electrolytic capacitors, and I plan on re-capping my EEClV PCM's, in the future.
