Hello Everyone,

Dan Thornsberry and I have been kicking around an idea that we would like some feedback on.

We have been in contact with Kentucky Dragway on having a private track rental. Not sure when but we need to see who would be interested in going.

Here's what is being offered:

Sunday Event with Concessions being opened.

50 car limit.

50% down when we schedule the event. Non-refundable.

Remainder due 3 days before the event.

For those participating, a date will be set to pay the full amount. No refunds.

If the full amount is not obtained by the set date, refunds will be issued to those who have paid. No event will happen.

You will only race if you have paid the full amount by the set date. No paying at the event.

OPEN Event. Meaning, if your buddy/neighbor pays the full amount by the set date then he/she can race a Mustang, Truck, Cadillac or whatever. Might need to get clarification from the track on what can be raced (Dragster??).

The event is not limited to just Thunderbird's/Mark VIII's.

A racer can bring multiple vehicles but only the racer who pays the full amount can race. If you want your buddy/wife to race then they must pay the full amount by the set date. Car limit is still in effect.

No trophies.

No t-shirts.

$5000 Track Rental.

Remainder of Items:

Set event date.

Set date for paying full amount.

What happens if the event is rained out.

$5000 spread over XX Racers? 20 Racers = $250 each.

Is this something you would like to do? The price could increase if only 15 racers pay.

I'll edit the post as needed.

Sounds like an excellent idea for a track get together. Is Kentucky dragway the same track as we ran at back in the Shootout days? This would be a good excuse for me and others to knock the dust off of our garage ornaments. I for one would be interested. Just need a little time to get the car and trailer ready for the trip.

Mike...

I'm interested, but It might be a lot less expensive to join another event (like KY HP) or the track's regular schedule and have them add a class for our group.

Sounds like a great day. I'm not sure I would want to race, but would enjoy being there and watching the others race.

That is correct. Same track. I'm thinking August - October. Just not sure what date within those months. Depends on what people say.

New information.

3/1/2024 Edit:

Kentucky Dragway has responded again.

If they are going to enforce IHRA rules then I am going to pass on this. My car is to fast and it has no roll bars. Also, 1/8 mile?
I am not going to haul my car all the way from Toronto to have 6 seconds of racing before being told to go home. And all for only bragging rights.
It sounds like a great gathering but lets go 1/4 mile and at least have a beer mug as a prize. Also they need to confirm some relaxing of the rules for a private rental. As before.

Most likely it will be a 1/8 mile track since I can't get the 1/4 mile track to respond back to me. They initially did but then I haven't heard back from them concerning the dates to rent the track. I don't think they really want to rent the track to us.

Great point! Advocating for a switch to a 1/4 mile format and perhaps some relaxation of rules for private rentals sounds like valid points to raise. After all, events should be enjoyable and accommodating to all participants.

I can understand but I'm only reporting the information the track is giving me. As of right now, only two tracks have provided me dates.
