Idiot Light

Hi all, my check gauges light came on the other day and I noticed my oil gauge was showing no pressure. I know this gauge is not very exact. I pulled over and the oil was down at the lower mak so I added maybe half to two thirds of a litre. Check gauges light went out but the oil pressure gauge still showed nothing. The low oil light on the msg centre never lit up during any of this. Half hour later the red check gauges light lit again. Checked oil level and it was still good. The temp gauge sat on the N of NORM during all of this. No bizarre noises or behaviour. I'm due for an oil change but any ideas? I'm assuming a gauge glitch.

Thanks Tom

The check gauges light is coming on because the oil pressure gauge is at 0. If i recall correctly the sender is on/off. Meaning anything below 5 or 10 psi (can't remember the actual psi), the gauge drops to 0. You have to put a mechanical on the motor and check the actual pressure. If you're lucky it's just a bad oil pressure sender.

The first thing you do is remove the connector at the oil pressure switch, and ground it. turn the igntion on, and the gauge should go btween 1/2 to 2/3 of the scale. If it does, then your instrument cluster, and wiring is ok. Replace the OP switch. The switch is behind the power steering pump bracket.

Also check for corrosion on the wire at the sender mine was giving me some issue awhile back when I'd accerlate it would go to 0 then if I let off it would go back to normal. The sender is indeed just a on/off switch. Also it's pretty cheap to buy a new one just to test.
