Improving cooling, better aux rad or removing oil cooler lines to its own system?

Given that oil cooling is supposedly responsible for cooling the engine 20-30%. Would it prove beneficial to remove the hoses from the water pump and create a separate cooling for the oil, heat exchanger with an external pump? Or do we simply add an Aux radiator parallel to assist the main radiator. Lots of new vehicles are equipped with these aux radiators in the wheel well area, my Jaguar is equipped with one.

Planning on track days in the summer and would like to try something.

I've got a pretty good-sized power steering cooler where the driver's side foglight used to live. If the car were set up for track days instead of autocross (longer sessions, but not nearly as much steering input), I'd probably replace it with an oil cooler.

Hi Will,
I’m in the think box stage. Must new cars simply run external radiators when you opt them with track packages. Increasing cooling capacity and moving it away from the condenser. Some of the more serious racers will remove the coolant flow to the oil adapter. And run an external air cooler on the oil. I think your power steering idea is good but seems to work well for you in auto cross. That size exchanger might not be large enough for engine oil? I’m not really sure.

Hey Recardo, got an custom aluminum radiator by mike38sc years ago. Was on the car for 3 years. Fabbed a fan guard using the OEM fan. 3” thick with 2 rows of 1” tubes. Had to put cardboard in front to maintain temperature. I’m leaving CT end of this week though. Pm me if you think you want it. As I’m still going with a 460/T56 I’m going to go with a wider rad since I’ll have no I/C.
