JBL Audio Subwoofer replacement

I just searched ebay and looked through for a bit. I saw Kicker, JL Audio and Fosgate. The high branded stuff isn't cheap if thats what you were searching for

A friend of mine tells me that if the power handling is much higher than stock and the needs, they will be ‘stiff’ and not respond well to low frequencies at low volume.

This is what I have so far:
Trying to find something as close as possible to the original JBL woofer.

Which one do you think would do the job and why? Both are 4ohms and would fit the enclosure.

Lower price option: Pyramid $36.03 Peak 300 W

Higher price option: Focal $99 shipped Peak 160 W / 80rms

Did you ever figure out which one to go with?

Redfox, you were just on a couple days ago. I'm also interested in which woofer you went with and how it sounds ????

I researched a bunch of options at the time I first posted on this subject. Looked at a bunch of speakers on E-Bay and Amazon, went to a stereo shop, talked to other members who had tried various speakers and bottom line is I didn't find anything that was guaranteed to work. The JBL components are very specific to that system.

So I repaired the foam on one of my speakers that had a minor tear. For my other one, I intend to buy a speaker foam repair kit since that it what usually deteriorates on these speakers.

It would have been easy to find an equivalent substitute but to my surprise, I couldn't find it. But if the foam kit works well, that would be acceptable.

It's been a while since I've poked around back there, but I did replace mine several years ago. If I recall correctly, the factory amp puts out 6 ohms to the sub, so finding a 6ohm replacement for factory sound would be ideal.

I searched the forums here and found my old post saying what I changed it out with, but the link now leads to a 4 ohm speaker. I did a little more searching and found this:

It's an 8 ohm speaker, but should be fine in there. Higher ohms are fine and shouldn't damage the amp. As for dimensions: You may need to trim the factory box out some for the magnet to clear.

There is only 1 6 ohm 6.5" woofer I found, but it's $372. Not sure it's worth that...
