M5R2/302

Hello all,
Just picked up a 89 supercoupe field find with no motor. However, still has the M5R2 in it but the guy said the synchros need to be replaced. Is it as easy as ordering the set from SCP and hauling it down to my local transmission shop? Also anything else I need to know pairing it with a 302? From what I’ve read should bolt up/hold up fine. Any insight appreciated. (First post)

Yes, a 302 will bolt right up. However, you do need the 5.0 motor mounts. Make sure the shop you take it to is familiar with the transmissions though, not bad to work on but requires a few specific tools. It should hold up fine with a stock to lightly modified 302. I'm running a built 363 but have broken several transmissions (a tremec magnum is in my future) but I'm around 500 torque.

I thought the 5.0 was never offered in 89 or 90 as the new sloped hood wouldn't clear it?
They redesigned the subframe & oilpan to get it to sit lower, as well as the intake for 91?
Am I wrong?

As far as the subframe I think they are all the same. The 5.0 was only offered in 91-93, was same intake manifold as the 94-95 mustang gt. Oil pan is standard foxbody dual sump pan.

?? torque converter is for an automatic has nothing to do with a manual trans

if you need to source a 302 best bet is to get a gt40 engine out of a 98-01 explorer. Snatch all of it with the ecu and all.
