Mothers Clay Bar

I got to spend a little time on my 90 the other day and washed it real good then used some pre wax cleaner on the paint and the car was looking good.
I decided to buy the Mothers Clay bar kit and give it a shot. WOW this stuff actually works. I could not believe how the paint comes out once you give it a good rub down. I was thinking about taking the car to a shop and have them polish it but not any more. I give this stuff a big thumbs up.
Anyone else used it?

What colour was the car, Drew?
I have two dark colours I'd like to get the swirls out of.
SC Blue and what Chrysler calls Molten Lava.
I've only tried consumer grade products.

A clay bar will not remove swirl marks, it will take out dirt, tree sap and other stuff imbedded on the surface of the paint.

To remove swirls you will need something specifically designed for that, usually a compound that takes off a small layer of the clear.

Drew, i usually do a clay bar once a year when i bring the car out.

Is the liquid clay bar just as good and does it take out oxidation? My SC is white and looks dull but the clear is still good. I want to make it shine again.

The car is white and original paint, it looked good with just the pre wax cleaner but after the clay bar it is smooth as glass and really shines. Like Steve said I don't think it will take out swirl marks but it did remove a lot of small surface marks and scratches. I think I heard that the white on the SC's is some kind of enamal paint and no clear coat, why they alway's look dull.
I could be wrong though. Either way I am impressed with the result.

I clay bar my car the start of each year, I buy the clay bar and cut it into 4 square then rub it out so its spread out to about a 2 or 3 inch pad, then with a ton of soapy water i work in 2 foot sections, after 1 use i toss the clay bar out but have the other pieces i cut off, if it does not get to dirty i put it in a ziploc bag filled with soapy water to keep it moist

For swirls I find the best is mequires stage 2 in thier purple series of cleaner/wax, and work in small sections again

I even claybared my sled this year and everyone noticed lol, hey John force waxes his dragster before each race, that smoothness helps! now you guys are all going to be running 12s like me :p

The clay bar is really worth the time. I have done a few vehilces now, with great results. Bruce has the right idea, one use only, if it hits the ground toss it out. Cut into smaller pieces and keep in a zip lock bag, I never used soapy water in my extra pieces, but I will next time.

I use it and it works fantastic, especially on black!

I agree with the former posts that yes you do need to polish first with a set of graded compounds and the clay bar will only remove very minor stuff. But...the final polish on black is made soooooooo much better with the claybar.

have fun.
