New to the group

Like to hear everyone's thoughts on what to do about my tranny? Also looking for driver side upper ball joint if you got one laying around.

Steve:

I think you'd be best served by installing a fresh upper control arm w/new joint. The trans sounds like it may be in need of an overhaul - did you check TV cable tension yet? If it needs repair & you can do trans work yourself, you may want to talk to one of the forum sponsors, Alan at http://www.dirtydogperformance.com.

Good luck.

Thanx kmt. For the fast response, not sure what I'm looking for on the tv cable. I was told by the mechanic I bought it from that it had no overdrive. so while I was out taking it to smog running it on freeway about 50 I threw it into overdrive just to check and it just pinned out the RPM's and I had nothing throw it back into driving it was fine.later in the day when all the fluid had finally warmed upI started to lose first gear and was barely able to get home I'm pretty sure after reading through the forum the OD band is gone which as I understand means I'm either replacing the tranny or rebuilding itI will definitely make contact with Alan thoughI think you're right about the upper control arm I might as well just replace the whole thing, now as far as me rebuilding the tranny that sounds a little scary I'm never undertook anything that serious before

Wow sccrewzer thanks for the response bro, I work in esco/Vista every day, gonna have to say what up one of theses days, I'm new to the sc's didn't know you could put other aods in there? What fits? Sounds like you feel my pain....lol I just want to drive it :-( paint hookups sound great, I'm outta money for a minute, the irony, or sad coincidence is my wife's xterra has been sitting in the shop for the last year with a blown tranny.... :-\ after giving up on fighting Nissan to take responsibility, I shelled out 3500 for a good used trans, (new from Nissan was 6k) and spent the rest of my "extra" money on the bird. The day I was smogging and burning up my tranny I was handing my mechanic the cash for the xterra. ...... f m l, I really appreciate more info on the Chula vista yard, what fits? Maybe you have an idea on price? What am I looking at for paint? I'm down to help, would love to help, something I've been interested in. Down to sand, tape prep? Thanx again for the info!

Ecology auto wrecking is the name of the yard price of a transmission I'm not sure of but I know every so often they do a half off sale they usually post it on they're web site. Any tranny from a 89-93 tbird or cougar should fit but I'll have to research it to make sure the v8 trannys fit as well. a paint jobs varies depending on the amount of work needed but anywhere from 1200-2000 again depends on color and paint quality and work needed to vehicle.

Although I have not dealt with any paint jobs recently. I agree with sccrewzer that a paint job could run within that price range. The more prep (parts you removed or taping) you do for the paint facility the less time they have to invest, which in turn means a lower price. But 1,200 ~ 2,000 would be a really good quality paint job. Whenever you need a paint job consult with "35thauto" as he has had paint work done on his vehicle.

updates

Ok been busy.... the chickens in the shop now, replacing A arms, stearing rods, struts, break flush, new fan(was overheating) and getting a used aod. My mechanic has a hard on for the chicken and wants it back on the road just as ad as I do. So he took it in and is fixing whatever he finds and putting me on payments. ... my brother just moved back from Canada last week and said when it's running he's taking it to get painted. .. it's really amazing all the love and support I'm getting for the chicken.

That's awesome! Looks like things are moving along quickly! The chicken will be looking good tearing up the streets in no time!:D
