Power Steering Question

Just getting my 95 all sorted and had a quick question with respect to the steering. I was under the impression that these had variable effort power steering, but mine always feels like it is at maximum assist no matter the speed. Is it possible someone put a normal pump on it or is there something else I should check. I had a similar issue on my 88 Supra, but on that it was an electronic valve on the rack (and it failed to minimum effort). I see no such arrangement on the Super Coupe's rack so I am not sure where to start troubleshooting. I have a service manual on the way, but not in hand yet.

I believe ARC module controls the variable assist as well, not sure if you can manually command or do a functionality test of the valve on the pump by plugging into the ARC diagnostic connector or not? It would at least show if there are any fault codes logged.

The pressure regulator valve, (EVO), is screwed into the side of the power steering reservoir, with the pressure hose connected to the rear of the valve. There is a 2 wire connector, the plugs straight into the valve. Can be seen under the upper intercooler pipe, but accessible by either moving the power junction box, and/or, washer reservoir out of the way. I forgot to plug mine back in after a service job, and the steering did feel really easy.

Thanks. I'll check both. I believe my ARC is totally disconnected. I don't get any lights manipulating the switch so probably something to check

So like I said, my ride control does nothing. I don't get any light no matter where I position the switch or any error codes flashing. It does nothing and I see that there is some integration with the steering on that module. I've checked the fuses I could find related to the systems.function and all seem good. Is there a common place someone might disable the system like this. As near as I can tell the module is still plugged up or is this potentially a bad module or something. Is there any way to test this without the dealer test equipment? I feel like it should do something. I still have the actuators All in place it seems and they do nothing. It's like the system is completely dead...no clicks or anything when I move the switch and no blinking lights in auto to denote an error

Ok, just posting to "complete the record" (assuming new part restores function). My service manual arrived. Test for an INOP firm light was to jumper pin 15 to 60 on the 60 pin connector. If the firm light illuminated, replacing the module was the listed fix. I performed this and the light illuminated so I'll chase down a module (hopefully) and see if this remedies the ARC and hopefully the steering issue that started this

Sounds like you're on the right track now. Hopefully that'll restore both features.

That was the issue. All works as it should now. I also replaced some bad capacitors in the original module and it also works now
