It's typical of a NICE northern car. It's not bad, but I would not try to restore it. I would drive it and enjoy it for what it is until it becomes no longer serviceable. For all the work that you will put into an SC if you want to restore or customize it into something cool, you might as well start with a clean body. There are plenty out there. This one is nice for being a northern car, but there is no substitute for a southern car that hasn't seen salt.

I recently worked on a California car that had been driven hard and put away wet so to speak it's whole life in southern CA. If you can imagine, the exhaust clamps were so clean that once broken loose the nuts would turn off with your fingers. Not a spec of rust anywhere on the car! The interior was shot and the paint was destroyed, but the body and mechanical parts were perfect.

my car has been a wisconsin car its whole life...the rockers under the sideskirts have holes rusted through them but my components underneath arnt nearly rusted as yours..
from the looks of it id rate it as normal for a car of its age and location.. whats the body look like?

Well thats a bummer but thats what my gut instinct was also.

What if i just get good spindles up front and new rotors and calipers all around and maybe stainless lines at some point. Find some mark viii lcas and replace the subframe brackets and maybe sway bar upgrade and that would clean up a bunch of the mess. Lowering springs and shocks and new bushings and then hit the subframe and body with some rust nuetrilizer where its not to bad?

Those are all things that I was planning on doing as upgrades regardless minus the control brackets.

I think the deal breaker is the rockers which ive yet to investigate. The pinch welds seem solid but there is a nice thin coating of orange dust down the bottom of the pass side gfx. If the rocker panels dont need complete replacement I think ill consider slowly working on this car. If there gone ill regroup and go a different route.

I appreciate the honest advice. You know what they say, the truth will set you free but it sure will piss you off first!!:D im obviously not pissed just bummed that it wasnt in a bit better shape and didnt need as much to get it where it should be.

Seen worse. Lift the GFX in front of or behind the door and check for body rot...that will tell you how long it's got.

Shame to see - But yes, Calif. cars FTW.

The body is bad. Pitting and rust over rear fenders and clear checking on all paint. Trim on bumper covers flaking to primer. Whole car needs either stripped or sanded to metal and etched, dents removed and then built back up. Rear bumper cover needs attention. Front/ rear glass needs replaced.

Interior is above average.

My opinion is that the car was well maintained but did not escape fords (and other manufactures) sub par paint and adhesions protocol of the time period. nor did the car live in the right part off the country to maintain its "youthful" look.

My plan is to not drive it like an ~~~~~~~ so I incure more problems and expense and chip away at what I can when time allows and have some fun working and learning on my "underdog" supercoupe:D

KMT thats what I plan on doing this week. When you say lift you mean pull or pry away and peek behind?
I was going to remove them but if thats a bad idea I wont. Was worried if its too bad I wont get them back on.

It depends on if the screw heads are so rusted you can't get a bite, so yes, don't do anything drastic - yet.
