Just a thought.
I have changed the factory intake to an aftermarket a couple of times. The decrease in performance from the stock system to something sucking hot air from the engine compartment like you're thinking is easy to feel . The engineers designed the stock system to work in tandem with the MAF and throttle body to get the maximum performance.
Unless you route the intake down into the inner wheel well away from the heat you will lose power.
Take your car out on a cold day and see how any supercharged or turbo car likes cold air compared to a hot day, or adding a real front mount intercooler.
