SC will start but then dies

Hello Guys,

My Thunderbird SC sat for shortly over one year as the OEM harmonic balancer needed to be repaired. A few weeks ago I Had the OEM harmonic balancer repaired (bolts between balancer and pulley). I reinstalled the OEM balancer.

The SC will start up but will die unless I gently tap the gas pedal as the RPM's come down. If I don't touch the pedal at all the car dies.

I looked at all the vaccuum lines but they are all connected. I tapped the TPS and IAC to see if they might be stuck but no change.

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you in advance

you've might of done so already but did you put in fresh gas I've seen that happen before after car sat for awhile.
 
I know this sounds unrelated but did you unbolt the intercooler maybe to open up some room? I did one time and had the same problem. Make sure the piping is sealed up right. If not disregard this.
 
91Tbird SC:::: Thanks, and yes I hope to get her working soon.

sccrewzer::::: I didn't change the gas. I just added NEW 91 Oct. and Octane booter, I only had about 1/8 tank of old gas.

Slater85::::::: Yes, I removed quite a bit of parts as I had to remove my harmonic balancer for repair.


I haven't had a chance to work on the SC at all since i have been getting out of work at 6:30 PM and by that time it is already dark. Hopefully in the next few days I can get under that hood and fix her up :p
 
IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!! (again) :p

Finally was able to squeeze 30 minutes here and there over some time and finally able to fix her. I removed and re-installed a few times the Double IC, Intake rubber tube, PCV lines harmonic balencer, etc, ect.

I finally found that on the inlet plenum there is a metal piece where a vaccumm line plugs into. Well the glue that holds those two metal pieces together broke loose and it totally came off. It was hard to notice because it was very well hidden under the cowls and that tight space.

I figured I would post my results just in case someone ever ran into the same situation, and did a search on the forum.
