Shocks

So all of the shock threads I've waded through are old and reference stuff that is no longer available. What are people currently doing for shocks? are the QA1 coilovers or just parts store replacement components for the non SC cars the only current options?

Rear shocks for a 03-04 cobra work, but obviously loose the arc function, but at least performance options are available that way, I'm running koni adjustables. For the front nothing really decent is available, I tried several brands and found nothing I liked, broke down and got the dual adjustable coilovers from scp and wish I would have done it sooner. They ride smoother (my car was on cut eibachs so it sits very low) and handle better than anything I've had on it so far.

A company in Memphis Tn. called R.E. enterprises was offering a rebuild service for adj. shocks, I spoke to them 3 years ago? about sending the 2 pairs I have to be redone. I think it was $65.00 + materials(45.00) per unit. So $110.00 each, but that was 3 years ago. There website is still active, So I think they are still going. (901) 385-9621. I'm in Canada, so at the time, the freight both ways & to find a carrier that would take a pressurized/oil filled(some leaking) item was twice the price of the part.

I think there was a member on here about the same time that was trying to put together a group purchase at a discounted price, since once the CNC & other tools were set up for these specific units, they do all at 1 time cheaper.

I'd be willing to go down that road, but my adjustables were long gone before I got it sadly.

Here’s a car that uses the coil overs.

As these are for the Mk VIII, do you have to change anything else and do you have any experience with them?
A review of the Miata application on Grassroots Motorsports pegged these as absolute garbage: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/maxpeedingrods-coilovers-for-nanb-miata/163039/page4/

Relevant quote: "We tried a couple of different of damper settings. The discussion came up as to whether this setup is better than stock springs with a set of blown stock shocks. It was inconclusive."

yeah I saw that. Honestly I'd go to the effort and cost to rebuild a set of stock ones if it was possible but if that isn't available just a decent set of non adjustable would be my choice. I don't really use it any way that a good coilover conversion would be justified. Any autocross type driving goes to my FIAT.

I've yeet to get a response from RE by the way.

I wonder how they rebuild them, do they cut them open or are they possible to take apart? I was told ARC shocks are not rebuildable.

When I spoke to them, they said the remove plastic dust sheild/cover from the top & drill hole through the weld at top of tube to release gas & drain the oil. Then they cut the rest of the weld at top & remove the top cap & pull the piston/rod assy. out of lower tube with the cap on it. They replace the adjustable valve at bottom of rod, press a new machined sleeve into the lower tube( if suface damaged/scored) replace seals on piston, replace seal in top cap where rod comes through it, refinish the rod surface if scored/pitted,refill lower tube with oil, reasemble the the piston/rod/cap to the lower tube reweld leaving a port to ref ill with gas( not sure how they do that) test for function in both valve postitions, check for leaks of gas oil, paint & reinstall the plastic upper cover/dust sheild.

Doug did they say cost of this ? And whats the company ?

I just picked up 2 super coupes a 89 and a 93 basically for parts so i will have extras to send out without removing mine

thanks

R.E. enterprises in Memphis TN. The site link posted above by Davidm0604 takes you there.
I think it was 3 years ago, I sopke to them & it was $110.00 U.S. each parts & labour as long as lower tube wasn't super rusty on outside( close to perferation) .
