Single Out or Dual out Resonator

I am upgrading my exhaust soon to a 2.5 inch setup. Is there any reason to go with a dual-in dual-out resonator and have 2.5" all the way back? Or is it best just to go with a 2.5-3-2.5 setup? Any advantages one has over the other?

The 3" middle pipe was mainly for people to route the pipe around the old style gastank. I've never heard what the exhaust sounds like with this setup but I'm sure someone else here has or atlease had a set up like it.

I think you will get plenty of flow and the best sound from the dual in single out resonator. I see you have a 91. I would recommend switching to the 93 and later gas tank, because for sure you will not bend 3.5 pipe around the old style tank. Realistically, 2.5's to 3.5 seems overkill to me. The general idea around here is that the factory system is really inadequate and people tend to compare pipe diameters and feel they need to get real wide pipes to make a difference. The reality is that the factory catalytic converters and necked-down section on the outlet of the factory resonator are the limiting factors of that design more than pipe diamater. I feel that 2.25"s to a single 3" then split back to 2.25's really supports plenty of flow for even heavily modified cars.

It is going in with the exhaust. Also it is '92 and up.

I think you might have read my first post wrong:)

I'd go dual in, dual out. Check the numbers for yourself, if you have a 3'' out, its a bottleneck. I'll be switching mine to 2/2 when I have $.

I've got the dual 2.5" to single 3" then dual 2.5" exhaust system on my car, and it's working fine for me.

But if you're starting from scratch, why not do dual in/out? It'll cost about the same and you won't have that restriction, even if it is a minor one.

The dual 2.5 system would probably have been better, but I didn't want to change the gas tank. Since either one will support 400 rwhp, I don't think it matters much.

Each route sounds equally as good as I have had both. Powerwise I have no idea which produces more. Personally I;d go 2 in 2 out.

I heard dual in - single out will DRONE at 1500 - 2500rpm ???
vs
Dual in - dual out.

I got rid of the 'drone' using Borla mufflers.
(vs dynomax super turbos, I have a pair for sale if interested)

My theory is going to 'single out' is like blowing through a
toliet paper tube and creates a new funny hollow noise 'Drone'.

I think it really depends on your other mods. My exhaust sounds much different everytime I change cams (on my 4th one). Then again it doesn't matter because at WOT the shreiking sound made by supercharger drowns out the exhaust.

W.T.F.? Ummmm, NO!!! It's NOT just about getting around the early gas tank with a custom, mandrel bent, exhaust pipe. A 3" center section is "mainly" for FLOW. Many Seriously Quick, Go-Fast-SC guys use a 2-1-2 with 3" center section. {Jump in here any time Uncle Dave}

I prefer the 2-1-2 Big Dawg (3.5" center), just to ensure that back pressure is not holding my engine back.
