SO-CAL's Easy Wheel Hop Delete Mod

So the overall idea is to compress the rubber isolator so the rear subframe doesnt have any flex ?? Sort of like adding a little more pre-load ?

Does cutting the lip off the isolator mount bring the rear subframe up a little bit ?? And does the plate mounted on the front sandwich between the body and subframe or is it only used as a rubber compressor between the washer and subframe?

Im just wondering how bad it would be to make the whole mount solid .. the mount must still have some flex, how do you get the right amount, not too stiff and not too loose to cause wheel hop ? Do the other suspension components take a little more wear and tear since the subframe mounts dont have the ability to absorb some of the shock ?

Manny you mentioned it had alot of road noise .. other than that, any other bad effects ? I dont mind much road noise. Im just wondering about stiffening the whole rear suspension and subframe. Would it be possible to make a circle cup or a cup with a plate that would mount up and around the subframe mount so it wouldnt be necessary to cut the mount itself ? Im trying to get some ideas here.

there is definetely more road noise, but u get used to it, or u might spray it down with some of that 3M rubber undercoating, see if that helps. The part that i believe it will put the most stress on would be the bolts, but when i removed mine i had little to no rust on them, so if u live in a area that u might have big rust problems ur best bet is to remove them with an impact wrench like i did and not a ratchet, when u try to remove them with a ratchet u can feel the bolt twisting and that is not a good thing, and replace them with some grade 8 or 10.9 if u can find them.

when i torqued back down my bolts, i torqued them back down to the 90ft lbs. like it states in the book. it took forever to get there, the rubber was just compressing and compressing and compressing, took me a good while to torque it back to spec, at first i thought something was wrong, but then it got nice and tight and CLICK, 90ft pounds.

the plate is there to sandwhich the mount, it fits between the upper washer cup and the subframe, the upper washer cup has hard rubber edges and middle is steel, iron, and when u start to torque the bolts down, u will see the hard rubber start to bend until u reach the point were it turns into steel, and then thats when the main rubber mount starts to compress.

Would this be a good mod for AODs as well? I know they don't usually have wheel hop, but mine did and David Neibert posted about his wheel hopping too. Manny, you need to start mass producing these. :D

Good thing about living in California, no rusted bolts here. :D
Ive dropped the whole IRS subframe and I know how those bolts can be tough to get out at first, they were just really long.

The road noise isnt a problem. I was thinking about making a set of subframe connectors that might mount to the IRS subframe better .. most of the sets I have seen connect between the middle frame part of the body and the bracket for the subframe mount with the two bolts.

I know bringing this old thread back up..... but has anyone tried this with using some solid rubber back there instead of the metal? May give the "tightness" AND you would not have the metal creating the extra road noise. What I was thinking would be using hockey pucks...

just curious - anyone ever make a step-by step "how-to" on this mod? Also, can anyone comment on what would work better - the "squares" or the "washers" manny uses? Any pros/cons from using the one to the other? I guess the squares creates the most road noise I assume... I am having REALLY BAD wheel hop it makes my car not fun to drive at all! Thanks!

Thats ironic to me that this thread was brought back up. If I can get the brace plates off of the front of the IRS setup without snapping the bolts, I have a set of machined washers that should do the trick. Any suggestions besides breaking it and/or soaking it repeatedly with PB blaster?

Heat them with a torch?

I didn't know we were still allowed to talk about this subject....

I'm not too sure how I'm going to get those subframe bolts out either, but I'm definitely going to add the So-Cal Wheel Hop Eliminator Kit to my car when I do get those bolts out! :D
