my drag radials are old and won't hold the power. I am looking to replace them with a tire around 27 to 28 inch tall tire I would prefer to stay away from bias ply tires because of instability on the top end. What would you recommend. Is there any wheel companies that would widen a stock tbird steel wheel? What is the widest 15 inch steel wheel that can be put in the back?

I've heard good things about the MT ET Street Radial Pros. http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/strip.php?item=ETStreetRadialPro

I would only go with an 8" wide wheel. After that you start to run into problems clearing the ebrake cable, especially with a 15" wheel.

Weld craft wheels in MI can widen wheels and I have had a few sets done by them. They do a god job. http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/

I would recommend bias ply tires tho. To help with axle breakage.

I run a 16x10" wheel on my car. Need to tie the ebrake cable back or just remove it from the caliper.

I'm running Hoosier Quick Time Pro's on the 5.0. Seem to hook good and drive dead straight down the track. I'm pretty happy but I'm not really putting down a lot of power (about 400).

I like the Hoosier QTP DOT slicks too. I'm using a 28" x 11.5" x 16" on an 8.5" wide wheel.

I agree too

At the shootout was the first time I had used the Hoosier QTP (27 X 11.5 X 15 size) and they worked great. I ran them at 17 psi most of the day and they hooked really well.
