WTB - Brake Proportioning Valve for 89 Cougar XR7 SC

Hi, as the title says I'm looking for a NOS or good used proportioning valve for an 89 XR7 SC. From what I understand, the same part number was used in 89 and 90 XR7s but Im not sure on the Tbird years. I've attached a pic of what I'm looking for. Thanks.

I don't believe there are any proportining valves used wih the ABS systems on the S/C XR-7's.
What you have a pic of is just a junction block with the pressure switch for the ARC system in it.
The switch is common to rust & fail (leak/burst). I don't think they are available anywhere & I just plugged the port off on one of my cars.

Thanks Doug. That makes sense. This is actually on my 73yo father's car and I'm trying to help him from 2 states away. But yes, now that you say that, it makes sense because there is only one line in and one line out. Can you tell me any more about the function of that switch? I'm not familiar with these cars and don't know what the ARC system is.

The issue that he is having is that he has no brake pressure (or any fluid at all) making it to the rear brakes. The car has sat for many years inside an enclosed trailer and the brakes functioned when it was parked. He has spoken to a few people locally and I believe those conversations are what have him convinced that the item in the picture is what he needs to replace. Thanks in advance for any help.

A.R.C. is Automatic Ride Control. When in Automatic mode that switch closes at 400 p.s.i. brake pressure & signals the ARC module to switch to Firm-help limit nose dive during hard braking.

The Teves brake booster/master cylinder/abs is a little tough to diagnose without manuals (& 2 states away) I suspect the brake booster motor isn't coming on. It supplies pressure for rear. Do both light's(red/orange) go out on dash with key on? Both should go out after 90 seconds. Does he hear motor running when key is turned on initially?

Doug, thank you so much for taking the time to explain that! He was kind of talking in circles on the phone but he did mention hearing the motor running sporadically and said there was a relay for it that he was considering replacing. I suspect he probably also has some loose or corroded contacts that he's dealing with with regard to the sporadic operation of that motor.

He did say that the dash brake lights do stay on. I'm assuming one is probably ABS and the other just generic brake? Like you said, helping diagnose from two states away is not easy....lol. Maybe once he gets that motor coming on consistently he may get brake pressure to the rear.

The motor will cycle on & off during use to maintain boost pressure. If the red light never goes off then it's not building enough pressure though. A pressure switch in the booster controls the relay which runs the pump. The fact he can hear the motor run sometimes is 1/2 the battle. Still could be a weak relay, bad pressure switch, low fluid level or fluid switch, bad connection at pump motor/relay/switch/fuse panel. You are correct, the other light is ABS.

Awesome, thank you! I will be in contact very soon. I need to speak to my dad tonight. Based on the info I've received here I'm thinking this probably isn't going to solve the issue he is encountering. But he may want to have me buy it anyway as a "just in case". Thanks again Jerome and all who have helped so far.

Cool, by all means no rush! Just wanted to let you know I have that part if need be. Best of luck and yes hopefully it’s just a fuse or something cheap and easy fix.

Could you possibly take a pic of each of the threaded line ports and the sensor plug ports for me please? Dad said he's most likely going to want to have me buy it but he's wanting to do a bit more research to be sure nothing crucial changed between the 89 - early 90 part number (E9SZ-2B091-D) and the part you have that I believe supercedes the old part. Thanks again for your help!

Not sure if this is going to help but here you go. Sorry for the bad pictures!!

Thanks for the additional pics and for your patience with me (and my father) through this. We would like to go ahead and buy it. Do you accept PayPal?
Not a problem at all! I just hope this part helps to get an SC back on the road. I’ll PM you with payment info. Thanks!
